I was lucky enough to survive a grueling session of basics, Kata and numerous rounds of Kumite.

At the end of session I was awarded my 1st Kyu. The focus is now looking forward to Shodan-Ho.

Once again I'm in the State Team and with tough new warm up drills this year is about improving fitness and stamina. I've said before I love competing in tournaments and can't wait for them to start.

The National All Styles Australian Titles were held at the Gold Coast, Queensland over two days. In my indiviadual Kata I placed 4th, Junior Team Kata placed 3rd, Team Kumite retired injured. 

SA put up a great effort in all divisions with very successful esults overall. The Junior Kata team of Margie Hookway, Jason Spetiri and myself did well with very tough competition.

This is the last tournament for 2011 and I'm looking forward to getting back into training after a short break over the Christmas New Year period. It will also give some aches and pains time to recover.

The 4 1/2 hour training seesion was fantastic. I always get so much out of these training sessions (including blisters). We started off with some Kata including working on stances followed by Kumite drills.

We have the GKR Karate State Titles and also the National All Styles State Titles to prepare for. 

It will be interesting to see how I go as my training leading up to these tournaments has not been ideal due to my health problems. All I can do is try my best.

Not only is there tournaments but the GKR SA State Team are lucky to have a 4 hour training session with multiple World Cup winner Sensei Anthont Ryan. This will be a tough but great training session. I always enjoy these sessions.

I attended 2 late sessions on the Tuesday and Wednesday that started off with some Kata followed by some Kumite drills and light sparring.

I have been having a few tests over the last month and have discovered I have had Glandular Fever at some stage in the last 3 - 6 months. I have also been hooked up to heart monitors, blood pressure monitors, had blood tests and stress tests. I am now waiting on results but this has had an effect on my training.

Under doctors orders I have had to cut back on my training. I contemplated leaving the GKR Karate South Australia State Team but I now have a modified training program. I have had offers from Sensei's to help me with my fitness and basically build me back up again. This won't happen overnight, but I'm working on it.

It was great to see another group from our Monday night class at Karrendi grading. This is the second group since Sensei Peter Thompson and myself took over the class. It's nice to see some colour instead of white belts.

He held an open to all students class on the Sunday and then a closed class for Instructors only.

I really enjoy classes run by Kancho. It's always something different from normal training, he always shares his knowledge and stories as well. It's a great expeirience and you also learn alot.

My preperation hasn't been great with literally no sparring at all since last year due to the outcome of some medical tests. I was still pleased with my results.
